Sage continues cloud push with eye on digital future of accounting

Firm aims to meet needs of next generation of digitally-savvy accountants

Sage has announced the launch of two cloud-focused platforms as the company looks to meet the needs of a new generation of accountants who want more digitally up-to-date software.

The first new tool is Sage Live for Accountants which runs in the Salesforce App Cloud. Sage explained that offering the service in this way allows customers to scale and manage client bases as required, while offering the same core tools needed by accountants.

The second is Sage One Partner Edition aimed at accountants who work with sole traders, entrepreneurs and micro-businesses. Sage said that it has made the product easy for accountants to load new clients, access key information and produce accounts and returns rapidly.

Both products will be available in May. Sage has not said whether they will be available as on-premise offerings, but V3 has asked for clarification.

If they are available only via the cloud it would mark a subtle shift in strategy by Sage after saying last year that the firm was trying to encourage, rather than force, firms to see the benefits of the cloud and would still offer on-premise versions of its software.

Commenting on the releases, Alison Parson, business services manager at UK accountancy firm Albert Goodman, said that moving from desktop software to the cloud is “without a doubt the biggest growth opportunity for accountancy firms”.

“Today’s businesses demand flexibility, working anywhere and at any time, and cloud accounting packages provide this,” she added.
