Microsoft has announced a raft of innovations to help businesses achieve digital transformation.

The firm has unveiled new capabilities in Microsoft Office 365, including meetings and voice services in Skype for Business; and its new enterprise service, Microsoft PowerApps, which allows employees to create their own apps.

Speaking at the recent Convergence EMEA conference, chief marketing officer Chris Capossela also announced the worldwide availability of Microsoft’s customer engagement solution Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016.

“As businesses strive to keep up with the pace of change, they are looking to technology to drive digital transformation,” he said.

“Microsoft can help businesses achieve their transformations by empowering individuals and organisations with innovative solutions that unleash the productivity and potential of their workforce, spur entirely new ways of collaborating, and infuse intelligence into their systems and processes.”

Office 365’s new capabilities include a complete meeting and voice solution – providing a single platform for calling, conferencing, video and sharing that sits alongside the Office applications enterprises use every day.

It also offers powerful analytics and data visualisation tools, plus advanced security and compliance (including full control over access to enterprise data in Office 365).

Microsoft PowerApps is designed for the changing world of work, in which employees are more mobile than ever.

“Limited developer resources mean business apps haven’t kept pace with employee demand,” says Microsoft.

Using the service, businesses can create employee-facing apps of all kinds, from the simplest app — like an employee survey — to mission-critical apps that connect to line-of-business systems and cloud services and run on any device, says the firm.

It is suitable for employees (with no coding skills), professional developers and IT professionals – and allows apps to be created and up and running ‘within minutes’, connecting securely to business systems.

Finally, CRM solution Dynamics CRM 2016 is now generally available for online and on-premises deployments. It offers advancements in intelligence, mobility and service, and comes with “significant productivity enhancements”, helping businesses and customer-facing employees achieve more, says Microsoft.
