1.9K 0

Imagine a world where everything in our lives is connected to the internet and each other, from smartphones and computers to our home’s lights, windows, thermostats, water system and more. A world where all of these devices can be in constant communication and controlled by users remotely via voice command or the simple push of a button. With the rapid growth of the internet of things (IoT), this level of home automation has become a reality.

We are on the brink of a smart-home boon, with a growing number of consumers, 71%, expecting to see at least one smart-home device in every home by 2025, according to a recent study by Intel Corporation. About 68% of those interviewed were confident that smart homes would become as common as smartphones within the next decade.

Whether you’re looking for an innovative home lighting or security solution, or trying to transform your house into a fully computerized system, here are some of the best smart home devices currently on the market, as recommended by seven members of Forbes Technology Council.

1. Amazon Echo

There are so many amazing home automation devices on the market today. It’s hard to pick just one, but I’m a big fan of the Amazon Echo. It is cloud connected, voice activated, and makes things easy and more accessible. The most recent release of the Amazon Echo can connect to Spotify and Pandora in addition to Amazon Prime’s music library. If only it could connect to smart TVs too… – Arnie Gordon, Arlyn Scales

2. Nest

I love the Nest thermostat because of the idea that it really helps with controlling energy consumption, which can lower bills while providing a comfortable environment in individual spaces so everyone in a home or office is happy with how it feels. It seems basic, but it is so effective in ways no regular thermostats could offer. – Chalmers Brown, Due

3. Wink And Philips Hue

Lighting automation is my new love. I’ve programmed exterior lights to change with the sun, leveraging Wink. Inside my home, I have various levels of “turndown service” that allow me to strategically dim lights for the evening and then bedtime. But, hands down, the most entertaining and excessive treat is the ability to turn my entire home into a nightclub with Hue colored lights and Thorlight for iOS. – Glenn Grant, G2 Technology Group
