New database, data warehouse, blockchain and artificial intelligence applications debut at Oracle OpenWorld event.
At its OracleWorld event, Oracle announced multiple new enterprise applications and services, including the Oracle 18c database, a blockchain cloud service, security services and artificial intelligence infused apps for the cloud.
The Oracle 18c database is the latest iteration of the company’s namesake technology platform and like its immediate predecessor, has a focus on cloud deployment. With 18C, Oracle is going beyond just being ready and able to run in the cloud, to having a database that can take advantage of some of the inherent properties of the cloud, like elasticity and hot-plugging for rapid updates.
“This is the most important thing we’ve done in a long, long time,” Larry Ellison, founder and CTO of Oracle said. “The automation does everything. We can guarantee availability of 99.995 percent, less than 30 minutes of planned or unplanned downtime.”
The automation enables rapid scaling up or down to meet demands. It’s also present to provide rapid remediation for any potential security risks. The promise with Oracle Database 18c is when there is a reported security vulnerability, that vulnerability can be automatically repaired on the cloud database without the need for unnecessary downtime
